Open Space & Recreation Plan Update
The Town of Barnstable is updating its Open Space and Recreation Plan (OSRP) last adopted in 2018. The OSRP allows the community to identify and evaluate goals, challenges, opportunities and priorities for open space protection, land management, and recreational opportunities. The plan provides a blueprint to guide the Town's plans, investments, policies and regulations in support of protecting and enhancing open space and recreation resources developed through a collaborative public process.
The plan is being developed to comply with guidance from the Massachusetts Division of Conservation Services and will ultimately be submitted to that agency for approval. An approved plan is necessary to maintain the Town's eligibility for state funding assistance for open space and recreation purchases and improvements.
A community meeting will be held Thursday August 28th at 6:00 PM in person at Barnstable Town Hall addressed 367 Main Street, Hyannis within the Hearing Room located on the 2nd floor. Live Spanish and Portuguese interpretation will be available. The objective of the meeting is to provide an overview of this project followed by an open house to obtain insight related to issues and opportunities for the Town's open space and recreation facilities. The meeting materials are linked below. Please submit comments by end of day Friday September 5th via email to Kyle Pedicini, kyle.pedicini@town.barnstable.ma.us, or drop off or mail comments to Barnstable Town Hall 367 Main Street, Hyannis 02601 Attention Planning & Development.
