13-04-06 – 77017 Custodian, Barnstable Municipal Airport:  Semi-skilled manual work involving responsibility for the care and maintenance of municipal buildings and grounds at the airport; related work as required.  High school diploma with one year experience in custodial and maintenance work; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.  Valid drivers license.  Must be able to pass a 10 year security check, as a prerequisite for working in a highly sensitive area.  General knowledge of cleaning materials and methods.  Skill in performing preventative maintenance on plant and equipment.  $646.91 weekly + benefits Open to Town of Barnstable Employees through 5/10/13 and to the Public through 5/21/13

13-03-08 –71007 Temporary Financial Coordinator, Department of Public Works, Administrative & Technical Support:  Skilled clerical, bookkeeping, and administrative work for the Department of Public Works.  Work includes compiling data for the annual operating budget, preparing payrolls, accounts payable, monitoring expenditures, developing and maintaining project budgets in spreadsheets format, transcribing correspondence; and assisting other divisions with similar or related work; performs all other duties as assigned.  High school diploma;  and three to five years experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or related field; computer training; payroll and customer service or related field; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.  Working knowledge of office practices, budget preparation and administration, grant management, and bookkeeping procedures.  Familiarity with town government, administrative controls and policies.  Ability to deal with the general public and other departments, in person and over the phone, tactfully and patiently.  Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records.  Ability to establish, maintain and perform on complex record and bookkeeping systems. Ability to prepare letters and report documents with accurate content and professional quality writing.  Ability to work independently and prioritize work.  Ability to be flexible and provide support and back up to other divisions as assigned.  Strong mathematics and bookkeeping skills.  Proficiency in operation of personal computers using word-processing, data base and spreadsheets.  Experience in the use of automated accounting system, Powerpoint, Munis, and Visio.  Position not to exceed six months.  $22.44 hr./no benefits Closes 5/21/13

13-02-02 – 66050 Seasonal Dockmaster/Assistant Harbormaster, Marine & Environmental Affairs:  Responsible for controlling use of Town owned marinas and slips, maintaining law and order, protecting life and property at Town marinas; ensures safety of vessels at dock, at moorings and out on the water; patrols Town waters and enforces State and Local boating laws.  High school diploma with two years experience in a related maritime field; knowledge of waterfront practices, rules and regulations and pertinent maritime laws; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. CPR, First Aid or First Responder desirable. Class D driver’s license required.  Must be able to perform general maintenance tasks and mechanical repairs, and be able to operate a small boat.  $12.00 hourly, no benefits.

13-02-03 - 66051 Seasonal Security Officer/Assistant Harbormaster, Marine & Environmental Affairs:  Responsible for controlling use of town owned marinas and slips, maintaining law and order, protecting life and property at Town marinas, and providing a security presence at Town marinas; all other work as required.  Work is conducted during night time hours.  High school diploma with two years experience in a related maritime field; knowledge of waterfront practices, rules and regulations and pertinent maritime laws; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.  Class D driver’s license.  Thorough knowledge of harbor and waterway regulations and proper procedures.  Ability to work tactfully with the public.  General knowledge of Coast Guard regulations and procedures.  Must be able to perform general maintenance tasks and mechanical repairs, and be able to operate a small boat.  $12.00 hourly, no benefits. 

13-02-0566054 Seasonal Mooring Officer, Marine & Environmental Affairs:  Responsible for assisting the Mooring Officer in management and enforcement of the town’s mooring program. Assists in determining the placement, type and adequacy of all moorings placed in the waters of Barnstable.  Assists in all aspects of the mooring program including enhancement and enforcement; all other work as required.  Documents mooring violations and improper use of moorings.  Collects computerized data including GIS/GPS information to further enhance the program.  Performs all duties of an Assistant Harbormaster as they pertain to moorings.  High School diploma required with two years experience in maritime related field.  At least two years of boat handling experience with power boats in all weather conditions, knowledge of mooring tackle.  Knowledge in small boat trailering, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.  CPR and First Responder certification.  Class D Driver’s License.  Boating Safety Certificate.  Thorough knowledge of harbor and waterway regulations and proper procedures.  Thorough knowledge of mooring tackle, setups, rigging and maintenance.  Knowledge of mooring management.  Knowledge of general maintenance and mechanical repair work.  Ability to work tactfully with the public.  Ability to tow trailers and boats.  Ability to swim.  Ability to operate power and hand tools.  Must have advanced knowledge of MS Access and Word.  Ability to perform strenuous physical duties under adverse weather conditions.  Demonstrated skill and knowledge in boat handling, docking, launching and recovery.  Good motor and coordination skills.  Good communications and computer skills.  $14.50 hourly, no benefits.

13-05-02 - 66057 Seasonal Harbor/Ramp Attendant, Marine & Environmental Affairs: Supports overall ramp/harbor operations by greeting the public, providing information, assisting with the movement of vehicular traffic, collecting fees, monitoring car and trailer parking, and maintaining security; all other related work as required.  High School diploma.  Some familiarity with boats and trailering.  MA Driver’s License.  $10.00 hourly, no benefits

13-03-03 - 74102 Seasonal Laborer, Buildings, Structures & Grounds:  Routine manual work in public works maintenance activities; all other work as required.  Performs custodial duties such as cleaning, washing, sweeping and stocking Comfort Stations, Offices and other areas as needed.  Assist in the maintenance, painting, and repair of various structures.  May assist the Buildings Section in replacement of various plumbing fixtures in Municipal Buildings and irrigation systems.  May assist the Electrician in the repair and/or installation of various electrical systems.  High School graduate or in a qualified School Internship program, and some experience in public works related activities; or any other equivalent combination of education and experience.  Carpentry skills a plus.  Valid driver’s license required.  $11.00 hourly, no benefits. 

13-03-04 - 74103 Seasonal Laborer, Structures & Grounds: Routine manual work in public works construction and maintenance activities.  Maintains both cemeteries and grounds throughout the Town.  Able to negotiate the compacting and loading operations of a Commercial Rear-loading Trash Truck.  Assist with daily maintenance of large commercial mowers such as, blade sharpening, oil changes, etc.  Familiar with planting and maintaining annual/perennial flower and shrub beds.  Operates mowers and gas string trimmers for long periods of time on a daily basis.  High School graduate or in a qualified School internship program, and some experience in public works related activities; or any other equivalent combination of education and experience.  Valid driver’s license required.  $11.00 hourly, no benefits

13-03-05 - 74104 Temporary Custodian, Structures & Grounds:  Semi skilled manual work involving the responsibility for the cleaning of public buildings for the Town of Barnstable.  Experience in building cleaning, painting or general upkeep; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.  General knowledge of cleaning materials and methods and the ability to perform moderately physical labor are required.  Subject to CORI/SORI checks.  Position will last a maximum of 14 weeks.  $11.00 hourly, no benefits.

13-04-01 - 77101 Seasonal Airport Workers, Barnstable Municipal Airport:  Routine manual work involving parking and fueling aircraft, collecting aircraft fees, maintaining buildings, grounds and assists staff as needed.  May involve clerical duties.  Must be at least 18 years old and have a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License.  Some knowledge of airport rules/operations desirable.  Must have the ability to operate hand tools and power equipment, ability to understand oral instructions and perform heavy manual labor under varying weather conditions.  Also, must have ability and willingness to follow safety procedures. Assists with the airport’s noise program.  $12.00 hourly, no benefits.

 

 

Seasonal Laborers/Greenspersons,   Olde Barnstable Fairgrounds & Hyannis Golf Courses:  Routine manual work in golf course and grounds maintenance. Involved with all aspects of golf course maintenance, raking bunkers, mowing greens, tees, fairways, roughs, course set-up, weedwacking and numerous course improvement projects. Operates a variety of hand tools and power equipment requiring specific mowing techniques.
