Project Description:
The Marsh Trail, which provides access to private property
on Sandy Neck is in disrepair requiring improvements. Repairs
will include trail clearing, wash-out repair and graveling where
necessary.
Purpose:
To restore the Marsh Trail back to a useable and safe
condition for property owner access during the Piping Plover
season (July and August).
Project Timeline:
Project will be completed over the winter of 2004.
However, additional maintenance may occur over during winter
season in the future depending on trail needs in compliance with
Orders of Conditions.
Project Budget:
$1.25 million
Source(s) of funding:
Grants have been obtained from USDA, NRCS, Massachusetts
Executive Office of Environmental Affairs, Conservation Law
Foundation, NOAA/Gulf of Maine Council, Ducks Unlimited, US
Fisheries & Wildlife Service, and MA Corporate Wetlands
Restoration Partnership. Additional Grants will be sought for
Phase 2. $27,000 of town funds are supporting this project, as
are town staff.
Citizen Impacts:
Positive impact via marsh improvement. No negative
impact during the construction/installation phase. No
negative impacts upon completion of the project.
Public sessions held on:
2 Neighborhood meetings were held in 2002 which garnered
significant local support for the project.
