The Building Division of the Regulatory Services
Department is responsible for the permitting and
oversight of all aspects of building construction,
zoning enforcement, sign codes, site plan review and
permitting and inspection activities related to
electrical, gas and plumbing codes. Many of the
functions of the Division are mandated by the
Commonwealth of Massachusetts, including enforcement and
implementation of the state building code, the state
zoning act, the state gas and plumbing codes, and the
state architectural access code. Additional local codes
and standards must also be enforced.
